Thomas Johnson Composer
I’m Thomas Johnson, I live in Stroud in Gloucestershire. I’m a composer, musician and theatre maker. I’ve written hundreds of musical scores for all sorts of different kinds of theatre: tiny studios, mid-scale theatres, in parks, in schools, on Broadway, on the beach, from Minnesota to St.Petersburg.
Much of my work has been in the south west, including, in Gloucestershire, last year's Pinocchio for Strike a Light at The Guildhall, and many shows for Fairgame Theatre. In the dim past I was a member of the amazing Dr.Fosters Theatre Company in Stroud. I’m also passionate about choral music and have written quite a bit of it: human voices, singing in harmony, thrill like nothing else. There’s something incredibly moving about the sound, and the commonality of it. I composed Street of Bugles, an oratorio, for Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra and Choir, which was performed at the Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester Cathedral, and also a Three Choirs commission, Four Songs for the End of Wars, written for the Gloucester Cathedral bells and a junior choir. Also many scores over the years for Dramarama Youth Theatre in Stroud. I also play fiddle and guitar in Stroud's own The Lazy Susans. I love Gloucestershire and think it's so important to help foster a fulfilled, creative community in your own neck of the woods.
