Discover! Creative Careers

Discover! Creative Careers is an initiative by the UK creative industries to make it easier for young people to find careers in the creative industries. “Bringing together careers information and opportunities from creative organisations in one explorable directory.”


The Discover! Creative Careers website has a section sharing interesting videos from people in a variety of creative job roles, including a Community Arts Facilitator shared above.

Others include a Filmmaker, a Radio Producer and more.

Jolt

Jolt is a home for Gloucester’s creative community. It is a combination of set spaces, facilities and programmes that supports all creative disciplines. We aim to help you earn a living from your talent, add to the City’s cultural offer and put Gloucester on the map as a hotspot for creativity.

 
 

Meet Eric

Meet Eric is a platform designed primarily for students trying to start a career in the creative industries. Their website has resources for schools and colleges about careers in TV, Fashion, Marketing, Music, Journalism, and all creative sectors.

There are lesson plans, CPD opportunities, infographics and more. The app is designed for young people: once you enter in a few details about yourself, it will tailor the results to suit you. There are opportunities such as competitions, internships, or webinars with influential professionals.

The app is linked to the BBC’s Bring The Drama Festival, which has hundreds of events running in person or online that young people can attend to find out more about working in the TV, Film and Theatre sectors. 


The Music Works

The Music Works is a Gloucestershire based charity whose mission is to transform young lives through music. We work with over 3,000 young people a year from ages 8-30, in schools and our community rehearsal spaces in Gloucester, Stroud, and the Forest of Dean. Young Trustees Movement

The Young Trustees Movement is made up of current and aspiring young trustees, employers and allies. They exist to double the number of trustees aged 30 and under on charity boards by 2024.

ScreenSkills (was Creative Skillset, and Hiive)

ScreenSkills is the industry-led skills body for the screen industries – film, television (including children's, unscripted and high-end), VFX (visual effects), animation and games. We are supporting economic recovery and future innovation and growth across the nations and regions by investing in the skilled and inclusive workforce who are critical to the UK screen industries' global success.

 

ScreenSkills supports talent at every level, from new entrants to programmes for mid-career professionals and executives and across the industry, from production accounting to exhibition and grips to writers.

They provide or are developing services to support the finding, nurturing and retention of award-winning talent including Careers information, Apprenticeships, Skills forecasting, Mentoring, Quality marking - ScreenSkills Select, Bursaries, and Training.


The Creative Society

The Creative Society is an employment charity that helps young people wanting to work in the creative and cultural sector. They produce a weekly jobs and opportunities list via email, provide Employment surgeries, mentoring, and host Creative Job Studio.

 

Knowledge Centre from Creative and Cultural Skills

provides information, advice and guidance to the sector to help improve understanding about the value of apprenticeships/non-traditional training routes. They also commission and collate relevant research to better understand the challenges facing our workforce.

They also have podcasts which we recommend listening to, programmes, and events.

 

Arts Jobs

– Arts Council England’s free mailing list service, listing adverts for a range of job opportunities within the art and culture sector.

 

Bubble

– Bubble Jobs promote the digital and technology sectors and their wealth of amazing job and career opportunities.

 

Prospects

– provide a portfolio of graduate career and postgraduate study recruitment options and work in close partnership with HE and further education (FE) professional bodies and government to deliver unique services that benefit the sector as a whole. There are tools such as a Career Planner and Careers Advice.

 

Creative Access

Creative Access is one of the leading diversity organisations in the UK. They support talented people from groups that are under-represented in terms of ethnicity, socio-economic background and disability, or facing significant barriers to employment, to not just enter the creative industries, but to thrive when they get in.

 

Creative Youth Network

– helps young people, no matter what their background or circumstances, to reach their own potential through careers advice, support for  emerging artists, musicians, performers and creatives aged16-25 years old.

 

Creative Careers Roadshow

Create Glos worked in partnership with the G First LEP to support a Creative Careers Roadshow into secondary schools.  Some of the interns and apprentices as part of the Creative Employment Programme were interviewed in this 18 minute film featuring different creative pathways for young people. 

 

Gloucestershire Your Futures

Gloucestershire Your Futures is a website designed to support young people with SEND or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) toward achieving their career goals.

The website contains information about the Gloucestershire Local Offer and support services, key job profiles with video content for each and more.

Starting up your own Business


The Prince’s Trust – Enterprise Programme

Works with 18-30 year olds to turn big ideas into a business reality through their Enterprise programme, including training and mentoring support to funding and resources.

 

Glos Enterprise Limited (GEL)

-GEL provide 130 short courses in business skills, leadership & management, personal development and other technical skills such as Health & Safety, Finance, HR and many IT courses. They offer short courses and qualification programmes at Twigworth Court Business Centre, and can deliver training in-house at your offices or an alternative location.
