Mental Health, My Project & Me

Helping Children to help save our planet

I am a graphic artist, model maker, product & concept designer, writer and illustrator and amongst many other things an apprentice served tool maker.

I have Dyslexia and I suffer from Anxiety and Depression, but despite having to cope with these, let us say annoyances! I have written and illustrated and self-published my own Children’s novel: ‘Trouble in Trickletown’. It is the First in what I hope to be a series of ‘Knick-Knack Tree Adventures’.

Like many others on the create Gloucestershire website, we are here because we have a passion to create. We need to put our stories out there, in the hope that we might find the network of connections we will all need, to not only continue working in the creative industry ourselves, but to encourage and inspire others to follow in our footsteps.

I had thought that writing and illustrating my novel might be the beginning of the end of my financial struggles, but of course things were never going to be as easy as that! To achieve anything in life we all know we will need to work hard at it – Selling and marketing my book was not going to be easy it was about to take me out of my comfort zone!

I was lacking in certain skills and so I needed to do something different, to stand out from the crowd.

I created more and more elements to my project, in the hope that it might get noticed:

- A toy circus,

- Anti-bullying Superhero,

- Plans for an out-door theatre,

- Pop-Fix Knick-Knack Tree ...

The list continued to grow ... until then!

LOCK-DOWN! – Covid-19 was upon us
GLOBAL WARMING! – our planet was in trouble

We are now realising the devastating effects and new challenges Covid-19 and Global Warming are giving us.

What could I do?

I was unemployed and on Universal Credits. I was struggling with anxiety and depression following an accident at work. OCD and Body Dysmorphia were creeping into my life, I was finding it more and more difficult to socialise.

Was there anything one person could do, that might make a real difference? There was one thing I was sure of; I was going to try!

My creative and over active mind went into overdrive … I could only think BIG!

I spent the next two years creating: ‘KidzShot’ – The Golden Owl Awards – 7 Quests to Help our children, Help Save Our Planet.

Inspired by Prince Williams Earth Shot Prize Awards. I wanted something as grand and spectacular, something worthy of standing alongside them – A platform for our children to tell us what they are doing and what they want, as they begin to respect and re-shape our planet into their visions for a cleaner, brighter future.

‘KidzShot’

Many of us especially our children are worried about our planet.

Climate change is always in the news, the world is warming up and our weather is changing. The way we live is affecting the health of our planet and so we need to do things differently.

Our KidzShot interactive website, mixes fact with fiction, creating a fun and educational experience as children not only learn about the simple everyday things, we can all do to help save our planet, they actually do something about it.

Seven new and exciting characters have each been given a quest. Children can down-load interactive Quest books from our website to help their favourite characters help save our planet.

Perfect for home and classroom learning or just to have fun with your family and friends.

The Golden Owl Awards

To accompany our KidzShot project and to give it global recognition, we are launching ‘The Golden Owl Awards’.

Serious but fun! The Golden Owl Awards – 'Picnic in the Forest', allows children to take part on a global stage, as we begin to shape our world for a better future. Recognition awards and thankyou certificates acknowledge the amazing work all children do whilst addressing environmental issues in their local communities and across the globe.

A platform for change – Presented annually at a spectacular picnic in the forest, children will get the opportunity to tell the world what they are doing and what they want.

To make this project a success we need:

  • Sponsorship

  • Good-Will Investment

  • Guest Speakers

  • TV & Media Coverage

  • Awards Location.

When we are ready and funding is in place, we will invite our children, schools, organisations and communities to take part.

Opportunity and Investment

We need serious sponsorship and ‘Good-Will Investors’, to ensure a financial freedom during start-up. This will allow the project to quickly achieve its full potential. In the background, we will be working hard to create a viable and profitable business to reward our investors.

Your support will enable us to make our KidzShot project and Golden Owl Awards a reality, giving children a voice and global platform to tell the world what they are doing and to tell the world what they want.

Please contact us for more information.

Going forward

I make no apologies for thinking BIG! Our Children and our planet need us and so we are looking for serious investors who can see the potential in this project.

What you will see on our website is only one person’s work, on a zero budget! Imagine what a team of committed people might be able to achieve.

I hope you will consider helping us to turn this BIG IDEA, into a new and exciting adventure.

Many thanks,

Martin.
