Walking the Land – linking art, landscape and community well being.
Walking the Land is an artist collective that has been active in Gloucestershire’s Stroud Valleys since 2002 They link landscape, community and art through projects, research, exhibitions, installations, writing and shared walks with numerous artists’ other professions and wider communities.
The group has recently been given a grant via @cotswoldsnl (from DEFRA’s Farming in Protected Landscapes fund) and they are looking to make contact with community groups to collaborate with.
“We’re happy to work with people who are always outdoors and those who might feel a farm isn’t the place for them. Walkers, schools, community hubs, allotmenteers, climate action networks, youth clubs - you name it… Our workshops will be free, loads of fun and sneakily educational. If you know of a group who might be interested, get in touch by emailing growingplaces_activities@walkingtheland.org.uk”.
Art walks, creative workshops and activity days
Some of the funding will be used to lead around 50 art walks, creative workshops and activity days on farmland and in woodland on the edge of Stroud. The activities will involve participants in making creative responses to the landscape – photographing, writing, drawing, tree planting - while enjoying and gaining an understanding of the pioneering work that local farmers and land owners are doing to address climate change and support nature.
Can you help join spread the word and help find groups who might like to get involved?
Initially the group are looking for people who can help them make contact with existing networks - local groups, schools, clubs, organisations etc. If you know of a group who might be interested please email growingplaces_activities@walkingtheland.org.uk and we will email you further information about the walks, project and workshops.
In partnership with Hawkwood Centre for Future Thinking, Stroud Community Agriculture, Stroud Woodland Coop and Oakbrook Community Farm.
