Rednock School showcase their new silkscreening skills at Tyndale Arts Trail!

When Cam and Dursley Creatives and GL11 Community Hub collaborated on the Platinum Jubilee Flag making project the community went silkscreen WILD, producing over 2,500 flags depicting images created by local children that celebrated our Queen.

As part of the project legacy an impressive kit of equipment was gifted to Rednock School for their students to use. And to kick off the new term local printmaking graduate Ellie Badger came along to work with the A’Level Art and Photography students.

(I really have to add that Ellie also took part in CG's Meeting Life programme before completing her printmaking degree this year. Amazing!).

So we were doubly delighted that Ellie returned to help with this project. She worked with the students to produce a series of mixed media silkscreen prints developed from initial drawings and photographs based around Still Life. No doubt she'll have helped inspire the next generation of local artists.

One of the stunning mixed media prints.

Cam and Dursley’s Creative Catalyst Abi Nicol is thrilled at the outcomes and the impressive energy of the group while undertaking the workshop.

‘It was an incredibly exciting day collaborating and learning new skills. The Rednock students rose to the occasion and can now use screen printing in future project work. It is lovely to see ex student Ellie sharing her skills and interest in printmaking. Later in the term she will take her portfolio and talk about her journey to date with the Sixth Form, she has just been accepted on a mentoring programme led by the South West’s Real Ideas who are supporting her to develop her own creative business – printing her designs on to pre-loved clothing – breathing new life into clothes’

You can come and view the work exhibited in Dursley Library Windows as part of the Tyndale Art Trail on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October. The work will remain there for a few weeks after to inspire the town!

Abi would also like to thank Jackson’s, the local art supply shop based in Quedgeley who have supported the students by kindly gifting some of the materials – thank you!

‘It is so important that our young people have opportunities to broaden there knowledge and take part in community projects, it is through this kind of support that we can make it happen.’
