Arts & Cultural work placements now available for young people in Glos with Kickstart

We are delighted to share the news that Create Gloucestershire has been selected as a Gateway organisation working with 13 Gloucestershire organisations for the new government Kickstart Scheme.

As a Gateway organisation Create Gloucestershire will support 13 employers in the arts, cultural and education sector to recruit 31 young people in Gloucestershire giving them the chance to build their confidence and skills in the workplace, and to gain experience that will improve their chances of going on to find long-term, sustainable work.

The £2 billion fund aims to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month work placements aimed at those aged 16-24 who are on Universal Credit and are deemed to be at risk of long-term unemployment.

This scheme provides a rare opportunity for young people to experience work in the arts and cultural sector and is a great opportunity for the sector to diversify - by bringing in younger people from more diverse backgrounds. There will also be opportunities for the young people taking part in the scheme to work and network together.

Who can apply?

Young people aged 16-24 years old, who are unemployed and claiming Universal Credit.

Which Gloucestershire arts organisations are offering placements and what are the roles?

There are a huge range of opportunities available. Each of the roles is being created by the individual organisation and as such they differ - some of them are longer than 6 months and paid at a higher rate.

From 3 February 2021, the initial threshold of 30 job placements will be lifted so we will be able to add more employers and job placements to this list. If you are an employer in Gloucestershire who would like to offer a placement and you are in the arts, cultural or education sector please get in touch.

How to apply

Recruitment is through the 7 Glos Job Centre Plus’s: Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Stroud, Coleford, Cinderford, Tewkesbury. Talk to your work coach in your local JobCentre Plus to find out which vacancies are currently live.

We will be organising a series of Open Doors virtual events over the coming months, and a chance to meet the organisations involved, what they do, more about the role and ask any questions before you decide to apply. More info to follow on social media, or through the work coaches otherwise register your interest here.

When

Opportunities will be available from February up to December 2021.
